    Call: Doorstopper Poetry

    23h59

A new anthology of poetry by South African women

There has been no blockbuster anthology of South African women’s poetry since Breaking the Silence: A Century of South African Women’s Poetry appeared in 1990 and Isis X appeared in 2005. It is time for a new wide-ranging and up-to-date anthology of South African women’s poetry to appear.

If you are a South African woman poet, you are invited to submit new and unpublished poems (not published in anthologies, online journals, blogs or on social media) on any of the following themes:
    1. In this body
    2. On the face of it
    3. Home is a feeling
    4. This democracy
    5. The chemistry of the heart
    6. Power-full
    7. In a day
    8. Where?
    9. This is music
    10. Women designing futures

Each poet may submit a maximum of 10 poems. The major part of each poem should be in English, though you may include elements from other South African languages. You may choose to write on any or all of the themes. Poems must be submitted without your name and e-mail address; instead, complete the submission sheet on the following page and use it as a covering letter. E-mail your submissions to Poetrydoorstopper@gmail.com by midnight on 1 July 2018.

You will be notified about the success of your submission by 31 January 2019.
We regret that we are not in a position to give individual feedback.
Thank you for helping to craft a new era in South African poetry!
